Has Anyone Had To Take Long Term Antibiotics For An Infection (port Or Other) While On Chemo? Just Wondering About Possible Interferences.

I had a port infection and have been on continuous antibiotics for weeks. My chemo was delayed a week, but I didn’t have any of the side-effects afterwards. I guess I’m looking for reassurance that the chemotherapy is still able to do its job. I only have one more treatment left, but I’ll still be on the same antibiotics.

Please watch out for C Diff with long-term antibiotic use.

Julie, I was on antibiotics several times during chemotherapy. I had pneumonia, infection in my toes, and IC (bladder bacteria). Even though these illnesses were worse due to my compromised immune system, they did not interfere with my chemo treatments. My oncologist prescribed the antibiotics and felt there was no problem, taking them along side of chemo.
Positive energy to you, comfort and healing. 💕💝💗🌸

Not me, but I have patients that we hold to hold treatment, start antibiotics, and resume treatment. They do just fine.
Is your port or PICC infected? In those cases, we remove, antibiotics, week off, place new PICC, restart chemo a week later, replace port 1-2 weeks.
Wishing you well!
