Who Has Had HER2Positive Breast Cancer And How Long Was The Remission?
I was offered both- but I know me, I am not a patient patient. By choosing the mastectomy, flat closure, that was the end of surgeries, and I was able to skip radiation. 5 years now, no regrets, just sorry we even have to make these decisions!
Hugs!
I was diagnosed with HER2 positive BC November 2023. Currently undergoing treatment. Just finished 6 cycles of TCHP. Starting on maintenance Herceptin/Perjeta this Wednesday. Double mastectomy surgery coming up on May 22nd. Then 5 weeks of radiation. I hope remission lasts a looooong time. 🙏
Beverly- no thanks! Five years now, no regrets!
If you have insurance please let them reconstruct. You are worth it.
For me, I was told if I chose the lumpectomy, they would do chemo first to hopefully shrink the tumor so the surgery would be less invasive. But because they would be saving part of the breast- radiation would be recommended to zap any cancer cells in the area. Then I would continue on with the Herceptin, and then we would consider the tablet. When I told my surgeon I wanted the mastectom y, but I was not interested in reconstruction- she was totally supportive. I had asked about a double, but any time you have surgeries, you do open yourself up to the possibility of other complications. So, after some more research, and prayers- opted to go with the single mastectomy and a prosthetic. Hugs!
