How Long After A Double Mastectomy With Lymph Glands Removed Does It Take For The Pain To Go Away?
December 27, 2023 was a double mastectomy with 10 glands removed.
The feeling is starting to come back in my armpits and down my arms and across my chest on both sides. The more the numbness subsides the more pain I have. It’s lumpy and swollen and quite sore to the touch. I’m just wondering if this is normal and if so, approximately how long does it take for all of this to heal? Will I be in pain forever? Please share your experience. Thank you.
Could you take a picture and send it to her? My port removal incision healed quickly with no issues, so I am not sure what is going on- when you find out, let us all know- knowledge is power!! Hugs!
For me it seemed like- you know when you sit on the floor too long, and your leg goes numb, then you have to get up- and all those sharp pins and needles- but bit by bit as you get moving it eases up (though that makes it more intense at first)??
I did the single mastectomy, and no reconstruction. Hopefully, the pain is just the next step in the nerves healing- and you did just come back from an active vacation- so while the muscles are appreciating the activity, you may have freaked the nerves out a bit- lol! Hopefully you will see a positive difference in a few days! Hugs!
Pain after a double mastectomy with lymph node removal can vary greatly among individuals. While most people experience pain that diminishes as they recover, some may have lingering pain. One study found that 50% of people had mild pain and 16% had moderate to severe pain one year after breast cancer surgery. If pain Show Full Answer

Call your doctor and ask and also say incision not fully closed.
Each individual heals at a different pace. You had more done than what I had and every once in a while I feel different sensations in my left breast. When I was going for my radiation treatments it felt like someone pinching me from the inside of the breast plus other sensations like when getting out of bed in the morning it felt like the inside of my breast the tissue was tearing. I just don't know why that was happening. Sometimes times I call them phantom pains from what was there and not. Your body has gone to so much surgical trauma and the nerves etc are trying to process this and reconnect to what has gone on. Most of all be patient with yourself your healing and pain might take a while. My right breast where I had my port cather removed in January of this year is still on the ouchie side. That's been 5 months tomorrow. Love hugs and prayers to you.
