I am having a lumpectomy with sentinel lymph nodes removed in about a month. Does anyone have any tips or tricks for dealing with it? I saw the size up sports bra tip yesterday and have made a note to ger that as it gets closer to surgery.
@A MyBCTeam Member I am so sorry you have to have another one!!!

Kim I am so sorry to hear that. I am appalled by how many women have to have repeat surgeries. It is crazy.

- Pre-Surgery Preparation:

- You may undergo an ultrasound or mammogram to pinpoint the tumor's location.
- Marking the tumor location might involve a felt-tip marker or a needle/wire if the tumor is too small to feel.
- Post-Surgery Care:
- Follow your surgeon's instructions on wound care and managing the drainage tube.
- Exercise your arm to prevent stiffness.
- Take prescribed pain medications as needed.
- Wear a supportive bra day and night to minimize painful movements.
- Monitor for signs of complications like swelling or redness in the arm or hand and contact your doctor if they occur.
- Avoid showers and baths until your doctor approves resuming your regular bathing routine.
- Recovery:
- Get plenty of rest and take it easy during your recovery at home.
- The tissue removed will be sent to a lab for testing, and results may take one or two weeks.
- Additional Treatments:
- Radiation therapy is likely after a lumpectomy.
- Chemotherapy, hormone therapy, or targeted therapy may be recommended based on your specific case.
- Considerations:
- Some women opt for breast reconstruction surgery to improve the breast's appearance post-lumpectomy.
- Discuss with a plastic surgeon if you are interested in reconstruction.
