Radiation at any stage can be common. Unfortunately they are protecting against those random cancer cells that may have gotten left behind.
I was stage 1 and had radiation after my lumpectomy. I was tired but kept telling myself that it was one more way to make sure the cancer NEVER returns

Google about implants.
Some get infections with the process to prepare for permanent implants.

Also, find out if a Dr. will do the diep flap where you are and call your insurance company to see if they will pay for it….

Please those who have had implants please reply to this question.

I had 25 rounds of radiation and thankfully did not burn until the last week. I too want reconstruction and the surgeon told me that the success rate for implants is less than DIEP Procedure but personally I want to be extra sure that all the cells are gone especially since I had lymph nodes involved

Radiation therapy after a mastectomy for stage 2 breast cancer can be common, especially if cancer cells are found in the sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB). Here are some key points to consider:

- Radiation Therapy Considerations:
- Stage 2 Breast Cancer: Radiation is more common if cancer cells are found in the SLNB.
- Reconstruction Timing: If you need radiation therapy, it is usually best to receive it before undergoing reconstructive surgery. Radiation after reconstruction can delay healing and cause additional scarring.
- Consultation: Discuss with your oncologist and surgeon to understand the benefits and risks specific to your case.

- Types of Radiation:
- External Beam Radiation: Commonly used and involves targeting the breast area with radiation from outside the body.
- Intraoperative Radiation Therapy (IORT): Takes place during surgery and may be an option for certain small cancers.

- Personalized Decision: The decision to undergo radiation therapy should be based on your specific medical history, the characteristics of your cancer, and your overall health.

Always consult with your healthcare team to make the best decision for your situation.
