Letrozole?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

If you were on letrozole, let me know some of the side effects you experienced. I started taking a week ago but that combined with cholesterol meds are causing extreme pain in the back of my skull and down my neck to the point that I'm in tears. My cholesterol shot up after cancer diagnosis and I know letrozole will increase it at as well. If the pain I'm experiencing is what I have to deal with for the next 5 years, I'd rather take my chances as far as recurrence and not take the meds at all.

I stopped taking both the letrozole and cholesterol meds since my original post. All the pain in the back of my head and neck has gone away since. I am going to do just the letrozole for a week and no cholesterol meds to see if it was a combination of the two. I know it has to be the meds because I've had pet scans, mri's, brain mri, and all scans have been clear.

Update. Only Letrozole for the past week. No cholesterol meds. No pain this week either. I think the combination of both was what was causing the pain. My cholesterol meds before cancer treatment caused pain across my collarbone and up into my neck. Since both can cause some form of pain, it seems that combination won't work for me. Will get my PCP to try me on different cholesterol meds.

@A MyBCTeam Member so glad to hear that you pain is gone, and you have stopped the Cholesterol and Letrozole medications.
Related that both types of medications can cause the pain that you were experiencing is it possible to see a Pharmacist or MTM Pharmacist for a review of your medications. They typically are a service that is available to patients, and they make recommendations to your Primary Care Provider (PCP) or Medical Oncologist regarding the medications you are taking related to the symptoms you were experiencing. You don't have to figure this out on your own! Your Medical Team should be supporting you and the Nurses should be a connector for you as well.
Hoping something here is helpful. Sending positive vibes your way!

Me too. I elected to stop the letrozole because of the extreme pain in my back. I couldn't get out of bed without pain. Since May I have been feeling much better. I am 84 yrs old so I have enough pains and aches.....didn't need more.
