Is It Common To Get Breast Cancer In Both Breasts
I don't know how common it is, but I had cancer in both breasts. RIght breast was lobular (3 foci) and left breast was ductal (>5cm). Two separate issues. They did not think it was a case of starting in one and spreading to the other. Because of the right- multiple spots and left - large size, my care team recommended bi lateral mastectomy because the breasts that were left after surgery would not have looked much like breasts. They left the decision up to me and I agreed with bilateral mastectomy. All went well with surgery and treatments. 2 years out and I am doing well.
Breast cancer can occur in one or both breasts, but it is more common for it to develop in just one breast. If you have concerns or notice any unusual changes in either breast, it's important to contact your doctor for a thorough evaluation and appropriate screening, such as a mammogram or ultrasound.
