Oncotype DX Score . How Much Can This Be Trusted?
I read women's post here every day about their onco score and I don't know too much about this, how long has this test been available and what is the data on its accuracy?
Oncotype DX score
The test gives a score, known as a Recurrence Score, from 0 to 100. The higher the score, the more likely breast cancer is to come back and the more likely you are to benefit from having chemotherapy as well as hormone therapy.
I did so much research the first few months into this because I wanted to understand cell division. Very easy to understand all our cells have a job to do and one job is the instructions. A cell instructs another cell to stop dividing but the cell doesn't listen, so it keeps dividing and then cancer happens.
Next question is is there something we might have done to 'wake up' that mutation. Otherwise inheriting a genetic mutation or acquiring one we would all have cancer by the time we were 5 so for 65 years my PIK3 mutation stayed silent
@A MyBCTeam Member I'm sorry the side effects of Tamoxifen are so harsh on you.
DNA determines the structure, function and behavior of a cell. or damage to it, a gene can mutate. Mutated genes don't work properly because the instructions in their DNA get mixed up. This can cause cells that should be resting to divide and grow out of control, which can lead to cancer.
This is something totally out of our control. One cell keeps dividing, another cell that gives the order to stop dividing, the other cell doesn't listen and keeps dividing.
I have the PIK3 mutation, acquired before birth, not inherited. https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/body/2306...
Most cancers are a result of somatic mutations, which is why many cancers are localized to a particular organ or tissue of the body.
Nothing we can do about a mutation or to stop a cell from dividing. If one cell gives the orders to the other cell to stop dividing and that cell doesn't listen, all the broccoli, green tea and supplements aren't going to do anything.
My oncotype test score was 20, for my breast cancer lumpectomy in Dec. 2020. So I didn’t have chemotherapy, only radiation. Then in Dec. 2021, (almost exactly a year later) my mammogram showed that I had cancer in my right breast, had another lumpectomy and only radiation. I don’t think anything is written in stone. They can only estimate the law of averages. Now I’ve been 3 years cancer free! 🤞
@A MyBCTeam Member from my understanding its for estrogen + dependent cancer.
I didn't want to live with regrets. My Oncologist went over in detail my onco score whis was 40. The hormone inhibitors are a necessity. Without that drug, 50% recurrence. Radiation and drugs recurrence rate 24%. Adding chemo gives me 85% cure rate.
To Have TC Or Not...I'm Faced With A Difficult Decision...and Are There Long Term Side Effects To TC?
I See My Medical Oncologist On Wednesday. I Am Planning On Asking About Oncotype, Genetic Testing, Level Of Risk, Alternatives To Tamoxifen.
Has Anyone Tried Piperine? Its Suppose To Fight Cancer And Block Estrogen?
