GOOD NEWS Today. I Got The Results From My 2 Year Bone Density Scan And I Have Had No Bone Loss.
I have been on Anasterole(Arimidex) for 2 years. I chose not to take the Reclast drug (counter acts bone loss) because of potential side effects and also my initial bone density scan was 117 (3 points from normal). My oncologist supported my decision as long as I committed to taking Calcium and Vitamin D supplements plus exercise. I do Zumba several times a week and walk with 1.5 pound weights on my ankles almost every day. My oncologist was very pleased with the density results and⦠read more
That is wonderful news Sherrie and it will be very helpful to women to know they do not need those dangerous bone infusions & injections to protect their bones. I also refused those and my Vitamin Hydroxy test 4 months after I started Anastrozole was low at 16. Granted it was probably low when I started but then I started taking 5000 IU's of Vitamin D3 EVERYDAY and after 8 months later the results were a normal 33 which proves the bone drugs are not necessary.
I would like to add it is the job of our doctors to prescribe these drugs and the 'bone' drugs but it doesn't make them right just because they are doctors. When it comes to learning how all these drugs affect women I believe what woman say more than what a doctor says. Its called experience. Women who have tried or are on something who are living it know a lot more than doctors who say 'take this, most women don't have too many side effects' . I find it amazing they can say something like that.
Yes, i agree, AIs can provide all sorts of nastiness. I too have Osteopenia. Have for a decade +. I take 5000IU D plus K2. I cannot take calcium nor eat K foods . 6 weeks after I started the d3k2, my density scan revealed not only no further damage but actual improvement. I have been on AIs for 4+ years. On the other hand , my daughter in law who did have the "painful shots" has now had 3 broken toes and 2 broken fingers. She is thin and strong works out with a trainer every day and is a cross country runner. I work out 4-5 times a week and walk whenever i can 1 or 2 miles. She is 50, I am 80. She is now taking the same D3K2 I am. My onco has advised I definitely continue as he was delighted with the results, and is now recommending it to other patients. I will never take the shots.
While the AI's can be terrible, the bone injections are downright dangerous. I won't try to soften my opinion on these drugs, they are not safe no matter what damn doctors say.
Renae, I take Triquetra PlantD3+K2 5000IU D3, 120 mcgK2. 1 tablet/day with dinner all winter and 1 tablet/every other day all summer. Buy mine on Amazon because cannot get it locally here. The K2 acts to push coalcium into bones and teeth and out of arteries. Researched this on a number of medical sites first. This particular brsnd has no soy no estrogen, no gmo, no gluten, no dairy and, as my onco said, it obviously works for me! I have done weight bearing exercises for over 20 years -- they didn't help improve osteopenia. Still do those exercises and still walk a mile to 2 miles every dsy possible. These 80yr old bones just love this K2. Good luck!
