Is Anyone Not Taking The Bone Density Drugs And Able To Get A DEXA Scan Earlier Than The 2 Year Protocol Guidelines?

If not on bone density meds,
are you and/or your doctor concerned enough to keep track of bone decreases?

If you are on bone meds, is the protocol for you yearly DEXA instead of every 2 years???

Hi I am not on bone meds and my Oncologist, and I continue to have the discussion. Rightfully so since I am taking Arimidex. While he disagrees with me we set my next Dexa scan for 1 year to see how my bones did. My bone density actually increased. I am taking AlgeaCal Plus. This is a great site that will help you with bone density and have proven results for some not all. There is a wonderful Facebook group where you can ask questions etc as well. The key is to be consistent in taking it. I take two in the AM and PM. We have pushed my scan out to two years which is normal protocol. I also play golf and go to a PT led stretch class which is amazing. We do a lot of leg stretches while laying on a foam roller etc. I also took The Bone Coach class and learned about bone turnover markers (P1NP + CTX) because rebuilding bone etc. is just as important as managing your bone loss. I have added the Bone Coach collagen along with Annatrol. We are all different in how our bodies respond to supplements however, if I can offset the challenge with healthy/holistic approach I will hold off on the preventative bone meds he is requesting. I am 1.5 years in on the Arimidex. Wishing you all the best in your journey. Terry

If you take vit D3, K, magnesium- you should look into taking boron too. Boron helps drive calcium from our tissues to bones and teeth - it’s synergistic with D3, K and magnesium. I don’t take calcium supplements. I do weight bearing exercises and or walk 2-3 mi per day most days of the week. On tamoxifen and 62 yo. My dexa scan this yr shows I have bones of a 40 yo. Boron also helps prevent arthritis- I feel no aches and pains by adding this to my daily regimen. I believe there’s a boron group on FB to learn more. There’s two ways to get boron (3 mg tablets or borax powder). Just sharing what I’ve learned.

Not on meds. My doctor said every two years unless numbers go down. So far they haven’t but that should be a legit reason for more frequent DEXA scans

I have been on Lexatrole for 10 years now ( ending in January I think!) and have had routine bone density tests every two years without question. Of course, my bone density got progressively (but slowly) worse every time! I started on once yearly prolia infusions about two years ago. My insurance is not the easiest to work with, often needing pre-authorization for all testing, but it has eventually been approved each time!

I’m currently taking Letrozole and Started taking it 8/2022 after my last radiation treatment. I currently have a bone dexa scheduled this month. Since being diagnosed with HER 2+ 10/2021
I receive a bone dexa every year. So far no issues with my insurance.
