Do You Simply Take A Medication Your Provider Prescribed Or Freeze With Anxiety Over Taking Prescribed Meds (outside Of Cancer Treatment)?

I'm not a huge pharmaceutical gal. My approach has always been the most natural, wholistic way to help the body heal. That being said, I also believe in conventional medicine; it saves many lives, and we need it. However, many people experience awful side effects from medication, meds may interact with each other, interact with foods, cause various adverse reactions
It's recommended I take a systemic med to control my psoriasis, and I have another issue where another med is being… read more

Yes, the pharmacist is a doctor, and their specialty is drugs! So, use that resource! My husband takes so many meds he should rattle when he walks. Because of that, there is only one OTC pain med he can use, and only one cold OTC med. He was once prescribed a med for Gout, and it wasn't improving, not getting worse, but...
So after double checking with the pharmacist, he suggested a different. new med- we called his doctor, they did the Rx, and the Gout cleared it right up.

Pharmacists can be helpful. I was taking a supplement my oncologist suspected was interacting with my medication causing worsening side effects. She sent the information from the label to the hospital pharmacist (I go to a cancer center) after reviewing it I was told it was indeed interacting, causing my medication to increase in strength and wprsen side effects.

@A MyBCTeam Member, exactly! Unfortunately, I haven’t found a system yet that gets them to look at the whole puzzle. It, therefore, falls to us to present the whole puzzle. Often times, our interpretations are minimized or ignored.

Yes, if the pharmacist is part of the oncology practice, I think they all want to be on the same page, thankfully, the pharmacist at our oncology center is very open and honest. I had asked about getting Herceptin as a shot vs the infusion, and the oncologist said that had not been improved, so I told him to check with the pharmacist- and what I was asking about HAD been approved a few months before. After chatting with the pharmacist, I decided to continue as an infusion- but I wanted HIS input. After that- he would give me the thumbs up whenever we passed each other- lol!
