What Endometrial Thickness Did You Have During Taking Tamoxifen?

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Calgary, AB

My endometrial thickness is 8.6 and I am in the third year of taking tamoxifen. Last year I had a D& C and was ok but now it grew again. I thought after oophorectomy will stop thickening. Should I go for a D&C again.anyone did a hysterectomy just because of the thickening of the endometrium when taking tamoxifen?

@A MyBCTeam Member you do not have to worry about. Usually bad things happens after taking it for some years. Usually doctors do hysterectomies after 3 years and there is an abnormal thickening .

My lining got as thick as 10 cm and GYN was not concerned. Said it's a normal occurrence on tamoxifen. I was going through perimenopause at the same time. Lining got thinner on its own as time went on. I did 3 years on tamoxifen, then quit because of side effects and low risk of recurrence.

I told myself that I would never let things get to the point of possibly needing a hysterectomy. If suspicious things started showing in my lining, I'd stop the tamoxifen because treating my early stage breast cancer was not worth risking a 2nd cancer with removal of body parts. I've always been concerned that removal of uterus and ovaries could affect sexual & bladder function.
Thickening is normal on tamoxifen and I've heard that some GYNs don't even monitor the lining unless there is abnormal bleeding.

@A MyBCTeam Member - my gyn only did the D&C because the endometrial thickening was accompanied by heavy, painful periods and an ever so slightly elevated CA-125 level. She otherwise would have just monitored it.
Since my taking Tamoxifen only has a slight statistical impact on my recurrence risk, I will talk to my onc about quitting, especially if my period now doesn't return.
