Has Anyone Thought About Hysterectomy ??
I was just wondering if anyone had a hysterectomy, after having a double mastectomy ? Been reading that breast cancer and ovarian cancer are 'sister cancers' Just wondering if anyone was pro-active and had it done ?
There is only an increased risk of ovarian cancer if you have the BRCA 1 or 2 gene. The ovaries however produce estrogen, so for high risk ER+ cancers, if you are pre-menopausal and very young, they sometimes recommend ovarian suppression with meds or removal to eliminate that estrogen source. There are risks with removing ovaries, primarily heart health and bone density so they don't recommend for all. There was a big study that showed removing or suppressing ovaries and moving to an arimotase inhibitor vs tamoxifen was more effective but only in women 35 and under. I considered it and my BC and oncologist both suggested I should not do it. I am 49.
There is a chance of uterine cancer with Tamox. My uterine lining started thickening pretty quickly after starting Tamox. In order to avoid endometrial cancer i'm having a total hysterectomy in the next few weeks. My gyno has recommended this.
Thank-You, I just started Tamoxifin couple months ago, going to see my gyno in a couple weeks. See what she has to say...But I'm thinking of doing the same.
Thank you for your info, greatly appreciate it. I'm 48.
Yes, that's what I'm also thinking.......
Just wondering if anyone had it done, being pro-active or got ovarian cancer after breast cancer.
Thank you, for your reply. Nice to know I'm not the only one thinking that way.
