Oopherectomy Vs Medical Shutdown Of Ovaries

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭

I am currently premenopausal and had my double mastectomy sept 2014. Just found out that my cancer spread to my spine. Damn tamoxifen didn't work for me so now the plan is to put me into early menopause in order to put me on a different hormone therapy pill. I have to decide if I want to remove my ovaries or do zolodex shots to medically shut down my ovaries from producing estrogen. For other women who have dealt with this, how did you make this decision? I keep going back and forth.

I had the oopherectomy. I decided to do it because I wasn't planning on having any more children, and I didn't want to do the shots. It was a really easy procedure. I didn't have to stay overnight, and I can't see my scars.

I'm kinda in the same situation I was premenopausal and had a double mascectomy but because of one of my other medications they couldn't give me tamoxifen so I'm on armidex. I've been on the shots for about 7 monthes but have decided to get my ovaries removed, my surgery is scheduled for June 2nd.

Thanks everyone. I decided to just go with the surgery. It's scheduled for next week. Your feedback helped with the decision!

Thank you! I have a pre op appt scheduled but I’m still struggling with the choice. I have tolerated the lupron shots every three months, but it wonder if I won’t have the highs and lows if my ovaries are just gone. The lupron is not without its own set of issues.
Thank you for your help.
