Tamoxifen

A MyBCTeam Member asked a question 💭
Essex, Ontario

I have had a regular monthly cycle and I have been taking Tamoxifen since November 2015. My oncologist said this is normal but everything I have read about this medication says that you will stop your cycle or have break through bleeding. I just wondered if anyone else has had regular cycles being on this medication. The only concern the Oncologist has is if I have bleeding lasting 10 days or longer.....then it's a problem with the ovaries or uterus......fml.

I have been on Tam since December 2014.
I have regular cycles. But have heavy ones. Have had three ultra sounds and 2 biopsies.
go next week for latest results.
I have to admit that I am one of the lucky % to get the wrong end of tamoxifen.(aches of course, high cholesterol, still have periods, discharge not dryness, no hot flashes really, tiredness is awful))
But this last month I have skipped my period, 10 days late.
sorry for the ranting........

I have been on tamoxifen for 3 months and have stayed as regular as before, so far. I just turned 50.

I am on tamoxifen and it definitely has messed with my cycle, for a while I was every three weeks, then three months, now it is just a surprise when it comes. I do have a friend who was younger than me when she had breast cancer and was on tamoxifen for five years and had her cycle all the way through, she said it was much lighter than before the drug and no cramping, which she saw as a real positive. She is still cancer free 12 years later.

I had regular cycles while taking tamoxifen. I was 50 1/2 when I started and quit when I was 52. I had labs done to determine that was not menopausal yet so Zi had my ovaries removed at 52 1/2. They gound a luteal and a follicular cyst so I was still ovulating. My gyn and oncologist both considered this normal and I was never told that Tamoxifen halts your cycle.
