Low WBC Count

I finished radiation May 6th. I just had a recheck of my WBC count because it’s been running low. (Honestly for some time it’s been running low, my last “normal” one was back in 09/2020. In 03/2021 it was low & 11/21 it was low-both of those were before I knew about my breast cancer. Then 04/22-during radiation I had a re-check and it was lower.) Well, now yesterday just shy of 3 month post-radiation, it’s even lower! I’m honestly getting really nervous that I have something else going on… read more

Thanks all! I have a message into my onco but I got these results late on Friday so I haven’t heard back yet. Hoping to get to see him or talk to him this week.

I know the worry. I am watching my wbc and neutrophils dive, too. Still in OK zone, but onco shortened check ups from 12 weeks to 8 weeks. Maybe Exemestane doing it, idk. I am 2 years post chemo and radiation. Onco is hemotologist, so I trust his judgement. Have been having tummy issues which could just be an opportunistic gastritis. So I leave it in the expert hands of my really good onco... I am comfortable enough to question things and argue, if necessary. Suggest you talk to your onco and try to put worry aside. There are several treatments for this issue. Antibiotics are usually first I think. Sometimes steroids or , if necessary bone marrow boosters. Worry is a part of our lives now, but honestly, just try to reduce your stress and trust your Dr. If you don't trust him/her, find someone new. We are all with you.

What does your oncologist say about it? Mine stays low because of the drug Ibrance, but if it dips too low she's look ing for a possible infection . Usually she will adjust my meds until wbc comes back up. Or put me on an antibiotic. I hope you find out the source soon for your peace of mind 👍.

Hi Rhonda. My levels are low as well. Most of the time not so low that it requires intervention except last winter when I had an infusion of platelets. It was in part also because I am chronically anemic.
