I Know, I've Ask The Question About Lumpectomy. I Have Decided To Instead To Have A Double Mastectomy. I Remember Having Breast Surgery.
It's the same breast, that cancer was found. That was a decade ago and my mother is no longer here for me to inquire about it. I don't want another decade to go by and we are back with another problem or the cancer reoccures again. So anyone please share the pro and cons of there experience.
I just had a double mastectomy and reconstruction on March 27th, 2024. It was not an option, it was the recommended course of treatment for my cancer. It has been effective (so far fingers crossed), but it has been and continues to be a difficult recovery. And this is from someone who has had 2 knee replacements.
I had a double mastectomy and no implants. I am very happy with my decision.
I've already made up my mind if my cancer comes back I'm going with a mastectomy the next time. Don't want to go through this over and over again.
Did you ask if the doctor plans on using chemo? You need to know.
I had a lumpectomy and then one more surgery to clear margins. Statistically, at least so I was told, there's no difference in survival rates. I would sure rather have my breast--and there's a longer recovery time for a mastectomy. I would ask your physicians what, statistically, the differences are. And do your own research. I would not automatically assume a mastectomy is the safer choice.
