Go to SSA.gov it is all explained there. Usually, disability, if you have worked enough quarters, is like getting an early retirement. If that amount is below a specific amount, you can apply for SSI.

At 62 you can collect regular SS but it will be reduced benefits. I would suggest that you try for disability as your payments will be larger. You will need to prove that you are unable to work. Are you currently employed? I would suggest that you contact an attorney who specializes in SS benefits for the best advice. I worked until I was 70 because I wanted the highest benefits.

Gloria. Go for the social security disability. It probably pays more than your regular social security. Apply for state aid(Medicaid). It’s based on your income because when you’re on social security disability you have to wait two years to get Medicare. They are trying to change that but you know how slow things get done in Washington. While I was on Medicaid (state insurance) I was diagnosed with breast cancer. Never had to pay a dime for anything. I was lucky in that sense. Now I’m on Medicare part C. A Medicare advantage plan that I have to pay for. However once they pay $4000 for prescriptions I fall into the Gap. So my scripts cost more because I have to pay 25% of the cost of the drugs. Much higher than copays. Research the manufacturer of the drugs. Look for their patient assistance program and apply. My Ozempic is $1000 a month and Verzenio is $2000 a month. I get them both for free. Let me know if you have any other questions. Good luck on your journey.
