I have been off of it since March. Most of the side effects have resolved. I do have some lingering cognitive and emotional issues.

Taking a break from tamoxifen can have several concerns and considerations:

- Increased Risk of Recurrence: Stopping tamoxifen may increase the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Taking it for the prescribed length of time can lower this risk by up to 50% and decrease the risk of dying from breast cancer by 30%

Taking a break from tamoxifen can have several concerns and considerations:

- Increased Risk of Recurrence: Stopping tamoxifen may increase the risk of breast cancer recurrence. Taking it for the prescribed length of time can lower this risk by up to 50% and decrease the risk of dying from breast cancer by 30%.
- Side Effects: Some people stop tamoxifen due to side effects like hot flashes, weight gain, vaginal discharge, joint pain, fatigue, and mood swings. However, these side effects may not fade immediately and can linger for weeks or months.
- Serious Medical Issues: Tamoxifen can increase the risk of uterine cancer, blood clots, and stroke. Symptoms like unusual vaginal bleeding, changes in vaginal discharge, chest pain, shortness of breath, or sudden swelling in one or both legs should be discussed with a doctor immediately.
- Pregnancy: Tamoxifen is harmful to an unborn baby, so individuals may take a break to get pregnant. Studies suggest that a short-term break for pregnancy does not increase the short-term risk of recurrence, but more research is needed for long-term effects.
- Financial Stress: The cost of tamoxifen can be a concern. If financial hardship occurs, discussing resources with a doctor or pharmacist may help.

Always consult with your oncologist before making any changes to your treatment plan.
